Okay, ignore the ugly cover. Bowerbirds’ sophomore effort, Upper Air, is not a difficult or weird album (more folk than freak-folk for once), but it is a grower. And “Northern Lights” is likely to be the first track to sink it’s hooks in. Put it on repeat for a few minutes while you go about your things and despite your initial scoffs at its humble instrumentation, you’ll find yourself singing along to its beautifully-observed chorus. This ain’t Veckatimest (I’d give the album an 8/10), but look for a bit more attention for them surrounding the release next Tuesday.
